If you are indeed committed to protecting veterans’ education benefits as you say in your Iraq War press release, why have you not yet used your authority as Commander-in-Chief to reinstate to the Pentagon budget the Tuition Assistance that 200,000 service members like myself were using to pursue college degrees? Surely there must be some obsolete and wasteful programs, Cold War-era weapons systems, perhaps, that ought to hit the chopping block anyway.
Please, Mr. President, act in accordance with your rhetoric and honor the service of veterans who are relying on TA to accomplish their educational goals.

Luckily I exhausted my FY 2013 TA already, but think about the soldier who’s just getting back from a tour and hasn’t begun navigating the labyrinthine process to get their GI Bill, which is the situation I was in around this time last year.
I had that $4,500 in free money available to me; these guys and gals just had theirs snatched away. It can take a month or more for the VA to process your GI Bill application and start sending money.
Cutting aid to Israel is off the table, though. This is a disgrace.
